The Dreambox is also capable of streaming to other network clients. This example uses the VLC (VideoLan Client) for PC to receive the audio/video stream from the Dreambox (with Hydra Phoenix 1.09 firmware). Beware that VLC has changed over time and the example makes use of an older version. An alternative means would be to run the commercial UPnP-server Twonkyvision on the Dreambox, which is supposed to work I'm told.

"Maybe it would be nice to receive my settings for having the dreambox being able to stream over the internet.

First the network settings:
dreambox internal network ip 192.168.1.250 (having the hydra final 1.09 image)
transcoding/streaming pc internal network ip 192.168.1.7
router/firewall map tcp-port 1234 from wan to lan ip 192.168.1.7 (howto depends on router). Its even better to map a different wanport to lanport cos of security reasons (for instance 47474-->1234, thats mostly an upnp-setting in the router), or choose something else than 1234 (36363-->36363)...

Now choose a channel on the dreambox, enter http://192.168.1.250/video.pls, and save video.pls
Start up vlc media player, 'Open Network Stream...' and copy/paste the url in video.pls to the field 'HTTP/HTTPS/FTP/MMS', this should look like http://192.168.1.250:31339/0,0105,1388,1389,138a,1388 (this is bbc1 london).

Transcoding options:
'Advanced Options, Stream/Save settings...', depending on the uploadspeed you are having, copy/paste one of the following lines in the upper Targetfield:

for streams with about 500 or 250 kbps respectively.
You can always get these settings by also choosing the appropiate settings for Outputs, Encapsulation Method and Transcoding Options, but then there are no options for 'deinterlace' and cropping (croptop=2 is removing the upper 'buzz'line)...
Press OK twice.

Now there is a stream waiting to be transmitted on port 1234 of the transcoding pc with ip 192.168.1.7
Note: you need a quite fast pc being able for the realtime encoding of the stream, minimum pentium 4, 2 GHZ, 500 MB, mine is AMD X2 4200+, 2 GB The pc is already encoding now, check the cpu load! I get around 20% load on the 500 kbps stream.
You can check if all is alright by entering mms://192.168.1.7:1234 in windows media player on the local pc or on another local network pc, or mmsh://192.168.1.7:1234 in the vlc media player.

Okay, im @work, wanting to see a World Champion Soccer game... (not really, but thats not the point).
Open up windows media player, "Open URL:...", enter mms://a.b.c.d:1234 where a.b.c.d is the internet address of your network at home. Replace 1234 by another port if you mapped differently in your router.
But use the vlc media player preferably to watch the stream (especially for 16:9 content; then the aspect ratio is ok too), then enter mmsh://a.b.c.d:1234 ("Open Network Stream...", field "HTTP/HTTPS/FTP/MMS").

If you wanna zap to another channel, change the url of the dreambox stream to whats in the new video.pls.

Dreambox is a linux-based TV-tuner (satellite or terrestrial reception) with network support. The following example demonstrates how to stream video content from a PC by means of VLC (freeware; VideoLan project) to be displayed on the TV attached to the Dreambox.

When I moved to my current home I had to buy a satellite receiver as there was no cable. Being a Linux user I wanted a Linux based receiver. At the time there wasn’t much choice and I ended up with a Dreambox 7000S.
I’m not going to tell you anything about satellite reception. There are many websites out there that do so already.

But the dreambox has more uses. One thing I use it for almost daily is to watch video. Whether DVD’s or Internet content, I prefer using the dreambox because it limits the number of devices I need to connect to my TV and home-cinema.

Being a Linux user I mount the dreambox harddisk using NFS. Windows users can use Samba provided in most dreambox firmwares. I then use VLC te recode the movie:

If you have the dreambox audio connected using an optical cable you can change the acodec to ac3. When using ac3 you can also change channels to 6 and increase the ab (audio bitrate) to get the full cinema experience."

Mathilde och Marcus med sina nallar på Storudden. Även om barnen har sina egna rum så sover de för det mesta hos pappa. Sängramen i furu (Ikea) håller för påfrestningarna.

Marcus och Mathilde under båtutflykt vid Lötlandet. Den nyanskaffade propellern testkördes och visade sig fungera utmärkt. Efter picknick i båten följde bad i Lundby. Eftersom mamma inte, som hon hade lovat, hade skickat något passmedgivande med posten senast idag, så fick passärendet anstå till morgondagen. På så sätt kom barnen att återbördas till modern först under nästföljande dag, i samband med passärendet.

Bamse-Teatern har sin första föreställning för säsongen. Säsongen är barnens sommarlov, vars första dag på Storudden detta är. Michaela kunde som vanligt inte bestämma sig, så hon stannade hemma. Till saken hör i och för sig att hon befarar att allt kommer att vara hennes fel, och att hon "måste vara mamma hela tiden"
